The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design starts with a broad range of project-based art and design experiences using a wide range of ideas, materials and skills that encourages you to express and explore your own creativity. After the first 8 weeks, individuals choose to specialise in one of the following areas - fine art, visual communication, fashion and textiles, photography or three dimensional design.

An important part of the course involves researching concepts and ideas that are relevant to your own practical work, and this helps you to better understand the specialsation that you want to pursue at degree level.

The vast majority of students (typically more than 96%) progress onto their first choice of degree courses, either staying within BCU or at other top universities. The Foundation course has approximately 250 full and part-time students, all of whom can automatically progress onto one of our own Higher Education courses after successful completion

How to apply ...

You will need a good
portfolio plus one of the following:

• At least Grade C in five GCSE's
• At least Grade C in four GCSE's, plus one
  A Level pass
• Equivalent qualifications or experience

It is a good idea to get your teacher's help in preparing your portfolio so that it looks thorough, coherent and relevant to the course. Include sketchbooks/notebooks/research books etc, as evidence of how you collect information and develop your ideas into final pieces. Rehearse both the questions that might be asked and ones you might want to ask yourself.

At present there are no course fees for students under 19 years.
